A great app yet a bit complicated

Not too far ago, I invested several days into "mastering" and tuning TiddlyWiki. It was an interesting experience. I loved it on the whole and felt very enthusiastic about using it store all my knowledge. It's super flexible and use of tags, filters and macros make it unique. However, it's a bit complicated for mass adoption. Also, the extended use of its powerful features may make your computer tangibly slow.

That's why I found "Obsidian", that's what I'm using today to store my knowledge.

    🏁 Competitors: Obsidian.md
    👍 Pros:    Very flexible|Browser based
👎 Cons:    High learning curve|Could be slow

Tiddlywiki https://tiddlywiki.com/ is good at cross-linking notes and publishing to the web. • Nullboard: Kanban board in a single HTML file
This is very neat! I'd be interested to see something like this with a saving mechanism reminiscent of TiddlyWiki [0], which is saved as a portable HTML file. Documents that contain their own editors like this are really neat for offline use and long-term storage. I have tried quite many such apps and keep returning to Tiddlywiki (https://tiddlywiki.com/). It is not perfect, and the lack of hierarchy can be both a blessing and a curse. It uses flat-files which can impact performance and be more cumbersome than a database. Also, the integration with external files is a bit clumsy. However, the main strength is customizability. Various data is best presented in various ways,... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago

  • Software suggestions
I use TiddlyWiki. It's a portable editable wiki that doesn't require a web server or web hosting. You open it from your computer, edit it, and save it. You get all of the linking that you'd expect to see in a wiki, and it's super readable and easy to use. Source: over 1 year ago
  • PWAs can now access the file system on desktop and both Android and iOS
Hopefully, this will make it much easier for software like tiddlywiki [1] where the idea is to be as self-contained as possible. It has depended on various mechanisms to save changes to disk, but this may lower the threshold to use it and feel more streamlined [1] https://tiddlywiki.com. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

It is a single-HTML-file TiddlyWiki instance that runs in a web browser (offline as well as online), meant to be downloaded and stored wherever suits you best. This effort https://val.packett.cool/blog/tiddlypwa/ is remarkable as the mobile side of saving is not as robust as on the desktop side of things and there is a scaling limit on performance as the number of tiddlers grows. I would also offer to use a single file wiki such as tiddly wiki. It’s more than a bookmark manager, but it can be edited on the web and even stored in a git forge (like GitHub page). https://tiddlywiki.com/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
